So my family came to visit us at our new house this weekend for the first time! They had seen it briefly the day after our wedding, but we've done so much since then: office, bedroom, hallway and living room painted; hardwood floors in all those same rooms sanded and refinished; new tile in the kitchen; and a new bed and bedding in the master bedroom. It's really coming along great, I think. (And I know, if I ever get a bio made, then it'll be easier to show that. At least I need to take a few pictures to post in here!) But my family seemed really impressed with the house--at least my dad and stepmom did.
My little sister is only two months, so not much impresses her at this point besides eating and sleeping and pooping. And my little brother (at age three and a half) was much too preoccupied with our little kitten to worry about silly things like a house! ;-)
We didn't really do much, since it's hard to with such a small baby anyway plus the weather was very cold and windy. Justin made all of us a great dinner of BBQ chicken, parmesan cous cous, and peas on Friday night, and Saturday night we took them to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. During the day Saturday, my stepmom and I took Matthew to a park for a little while and then to some of the shops downtown where they were having their Holiday Open House weekend. (Can't wait for Christmas, by the way!)
Also, on Saturday evening, we watched online as two of our best friends, Jeff and Randi, got married in Las Vegas! We were sad that we couldn't be there to celebrate with them, but we're excited for the reception they're having back home in the spring. I'm Randi's maid of honor (or I guess matron of honor) and Justin is a groomsman.
Anyway, so I was so happy to see my family, and sad to see them leave, but I'll see them again a week from Friday when we head down south to stay with them for an early Thanksgiving celebration and to see my awesome and talented younger cousin in his high school's production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.
So this weekend was one of my thirty Matthew and Lucy visits crossed off my list; I'm looking forward to several more in the new couple of months with the holidays and my dad's birthday approaching!
Also accomplished on my list was the new thing I learned for last week: the number of electoral votes for each state while watching election coverage. And for this week: the inner-workings of my company's database. One of our former employees (and one of the sweetest people in the world!) came in for a few hours Friday afternoon to teach me some important info about the database and the program we use. It's very helpful to know for the work I'm currently doing and a helpful skill to add to my resume!
Well, that's all for today. I'm heading to the library soon to pick up some books and movies to continue to cross things off my list!
