This weekend was awesome! It was great to see my family from southern Illinois and a few of my relatives from Oklahoma. We basically did what we always do at my family get-togethers: play games and eat. My grandma and my aunt made a delicious early Thanksgiving meal on Saturday afternoon: turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, scalloped corn, and many, many more delicious things! Some of my cousins and I taught Justin how to play Clue--he had never played it before! But more about games below . . .
Saturday evening, we all went to see my sixteen-year-old cousin star in high school's production of The Importance of Being Earnest. He was Algernon, and (although I can't claim to be unbiased), he was clearly the most talented actor in the play. Most of the students attempted a British accent, but my cousin was the only one who had a good one and was able to sustain it throughout the entire show. Every time I see him perform, I just get more and more impressed with his acting/musical abilities!
So that was (in part) the busy weekend. As for the work week, it's over today! I'm so happy and thankful to have three paid holiday days this week for Thanksgiving! Wednesday, I plan to do some Christmas shopping; Thursday is our two big Thanksgiving dinners; and Friday is finally Christmas decorating day! I cannot wait!
As for the things I accomplished on my list since my last post:
62. Try five foods I think I don't like
I completely finished this item! Woo hoo! I tried Whoppers (the malted candy) and beets, and I was right in both cases: I do not like them. I've never cared for the malted flavor, and I think beets taste like dirty corn on the cob! (My uncle asked me how I know what dirt tastes like, and I replied that beets taste like dirt smells. Ew!)
7. See Matty and Lucy at least 30 times
I saw my brother and sister for the second time of at least thirty this weekend. As always, I love seeing them and it's so hard to say goodbye at the end of the visit! I made Lucy giggle by singing a song to her, and Matty was arguing with my best friend that he was my best friend, not her. :-) I just love those kids so much!
25. Read 82 never-before-read books
I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, particular book, but on Sunday I finished sTori Telling by Tori Spelling. At the end of the summer, I'd started watching Tori Spelling and her husband's reality show on the Oxygen channel, and it became sort of a guilty pleasure of mine. So I thought I should read her book, if only for that reason. It was pretty interesting and definitely a quick read.
33. Read at least 20 Dalkey books
Sunday night I also finished Singular Pleasures by Harry Mathews. Dalkey has published several of Mathews' books and he also sits on our board of directors. I'm excited to read more of his, especially 20 Lines a Day and My Life in CIA.
