The One with NaNoWriMo

So I did it. Today I officially signed up for National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short. I first heard about this a few years ago when I was in college, but there was NO WAY I would have been able to write 50,000 words in 30 days (the ultimate goal of NaNoWriMo) while keeping up with an English major's regular load of reading and writing.

So I am going to give a shot this year. It begins on November 1, which is this Saturday. Eek!! Check out the official NaNoWriMo site here. You've still got time to get in on the novel writing fun this year if you want to!

So obviously, this is an attempt to cross off #30 on my list: participate in NaNoWriMo. But I'm not going to double dip it, and also count whatever I produce in this project as my #24, finish a novel.

Last spring, during my last semester of college, I wrote two short stories for my creative writing class that I see as chapters of my first novel. I thought I had a pretty good start going but unfortunately, I didn't make time to write over the summer (bad Bre!), what with graduating from college, starting a new job, buying a house, moving out of an apartment and another house, oh and planning a wedding and getting married!

Now that we're slowly getting settled into our new house, I must make time to write! I'm optimistic that NaNoWriMo will get me back into the writing spirit, so we'll see how it goes starting Saturday!
